How to Find a Niche -Part 3

You may now be asking, "How do I find a niche market?" Let's look at a method you can use to help you drill down to a possible winner for your niche market.

Which Niche?

Niche picking can be a fun but frustrating process. The main concern will be which niche you can potentially make a profit from.

You may decide you want to focus on 'nose rings for pit bulls' but if no one (or very few) people are searching for that sort of thing, your income will be very limited. You may, eventually, decide to do a site that's pure passion regardless of the income - that's great! Your site, over time, might just become an authority on that topic with the added bonus of bringing in an income as well. So, if at some point, you have a burning desire to pursue a certain topic, regardless of popularity, by all means go ahead. For right now though, we are focusing on a marketing niche that can generate a WAHM some cash.

Find a Niche

1).The first thing you want do is write down at least 5 things (10 would be even better) that you feel excited about, passionate about, or are very interested in.

2). Next, of those five to ten ideas, which ones have a problem associated with them? For example, if you are very interested in gardening, what are some of the concerns and problems that gardeners face? I'm not a gardener, but I can imagine a gardener might have: weather concerns, pest control worries, soil problems,
time constraints, etc. Try and list at least a couple of problems/concerns for each of the 5 or 10 topics from your original category. If you can't think of one for a particular category, then that topic will automatically be excluded from your list of options - cross it out.....

What is a Niche? - Part 2

When It first became popular among internet marketers to talk about finding your 'niche', I immediately felt an energizing, 'oh, this is for ME!' type of feeling. So much of what I had been learning about internet marketing seemed a bit technical and foreign to me, but hearing about niches encouraged me to feel that this was something that I could do.


You probably already have a feel for what is meant by a niche, just like I did, even if you've never really thought about it before.

Niche:Definition

A niche, for internet marketers, is simply a subset of a larger category that you will work in to make your home income. As an aside, internet marketing has become pretty much a catch all phrase to describe anyone who uses the internet to make money. Even if you aren't particularly marketing any specific product, i.e. Adsense (we'll discuss Adsense at a later time), you're still considered an internet marketer.

Ok, let's look at an example of a niche. Lets say you are interested in things pertaining to health. Maybe you or a loved one suffers from diabetes so you have spent a lot of time reading and researching what is helpful for diabetics to stay
in control of their diabetes.

If you decide to make an income on line from recommendations to diabetics regarding their diet, exercise and other lifestyle changes, you would be working in a sub-category of the health arena.

You may want to narrow down your particular emphasis even further. Maybe you will only discuss the type of exercises that are good for diabetics. You might recommend exercise books, exercise equipment and even have videos of yourself or someone else demonstrating the beneficial exercises that diabetics could do - that would be considered a very targeted niche - this is what you want!

The more targeted you can become with your niche, the better able you will be to carve out your own following of readers who, hopefully, will add to your bottom line. If you target too large of a demographic segment, you will be faced with massive amounts of competition and will find it hard to reach your income goals.

Working Your Niche - Part 1

The question comes up periodically on discussion forums as to what is a 'niche". I remember when I first heard the term many years ago, I too wondered what it meant, especially since it had just begun to be the 'in vogue' thing to tell every; "oh, if you want to REALLY make money online, you have to find your niche."


I kind of had a 'feel' for what they meant, but I wasn't really sure. Was there a niche out there for me? How could I be sure? What do I do once I find my niche?
