How To Monetize Your Content

The website referenced in this article is no longer functioning

One way that those of us who work from home bring in a little extra income is by 'renting out' the digital real estate on our blogs and websites. What that means is that we allow others to place their ads on our blogs and websites, or we place our own ads. These can be either Adsense or Yahoo Ads, affiliate links or products we're selling.

Make Money from Your Content
I've recently learned of a new model of how to monetize your content from websites and blogs called Pay Per Play. How it works is that major advertizers like Taco Bell, Harley Davidson, etc, would pay you to play a 5 second audio commercial on your site each time someone visits your site.

Why?
Advertizers are seeing a decrease in the effectiveness of their television commercials due to people spending more and more time on the internet, recording their favorite shows, fast forwarding through commercials, or just simply ignoring them when they are on. To keep themselves in the mind of the consumer, they've decided to approach the internet in a new way and are willing to pay site owners for the privilege to do so.

Alternative to Adsense?
If you've used Adsense, then this model will be very similar but potentially much more effective as well as much more lucrative. All you'll need to do is place a bit of javascript code on your site, just like Adsense. The code will 'read' your content and provide the appropriate type of advertisement, just like Adsense. You will receive payment EACH time your site is opened in someone's browser, NOT just like Adsense which requires the reader to click on an ad in order for you to receive pay.

This program, which is in prelaunch to get members to sign up, is free to join and you would start earning from ads placed on your site beginning February 1, 2008. They are limiting the number of site owners who come on board so if you would like to try a new way of monetizing your site, I'd recommend you get on board now.
